Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission

As a part of his desire to help ordinary people get good medical attention, Sri Vedantam Ji started the first Health Centre in a small village called Cherakulam in Srivaikundum Taluk, Tuticurin district in 1970. This was the first and only hospital at that time for the more than 30 remote villages. Seeing its usefulness to the village community, many medical Practitioners supported this hospital, named after the land & building Donors – ShanmugaVelayutham General & Maternity Hospital.

With the visible benefits of the hospital to poor segment of people, more Philanthropists came forward and two more hospitals were started, both in Chennai. Ammini Clinic & Diagnostic Centre at Shenoy Nagar, Chennai and Kola Saraswathi Hospital in Egmore Chennai were started in the 80s.

All these three hospitals were brought under the management of Sri Vivekananda Medical Mission. A Skill development centre to train women was started offering training programmes to women in tailoring, computers, health services etc.

Medical Camps

In continuation of health services the Mission took the services to the people by organising Medical camps in many locations. From 2023 an extensive Mobile Medical Programme was started under title “வீடுதேடிமருத்துவம்” Medical camps at your door step.
